Aiming at a target only works when you are at a certain distance from it.
The aiming point is displayed as a square box as shown on the left.
If you narrow the distance to about 25m and you get close to the target, you will be able to aim. The aim point is activated as it shows in the right picture.
Also, when the aim point is activated, the distance between the target and the character is displayed.
